About Cutler Bay, FL

Cutler Bay is an incorporated town in Miami-Dade County, Florida. Cutler Ridge had a total population of 40,286. Cutler Ridge was only a section of Unincorporated Dade County until incorporation of Cutler Bay. There has always been some angst among Cutler Ridge residents, affectionately called 'Ridge Rats', regarding the naming of the town, which was voted on by a majority the populace.

On January 11, 2005, residents on this unincorporated community voted to incorporate. In November 2005, residents adopted the municipal charter in which the fledgling city was renamed Cutler Bay. Both the current and former names were derived from the former town of Cutler, which was established late in the 19th century but largely abandoned early in the 20th century after the Florida East Coast Railway was routed through Perrine to the west. In the 1950s the area was developed under the name Cutler Ridge.

In January 2006, Cutler Bay elected former Florida state legislator John F. Cosgrove as its first mayor. Mayor Cosgrove died on April 19, 2006, while vacationing in Zimbabwe.[2] Vice Mayor Paul Vrooman assumed the position of Mayor. In November 2010 Edward P. MacDougall was elected mayor from Vice Mayor. Prior to incorporation Edward MacDougall chaired the municipal charter committee which set the Towns charter.

Cutler Bay is also home to the Southland Mall, which was formerly named Cutler Ridge Mall.
